Golden Verse 金句

He, however, shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. They were waiting for him to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw no misfortune come to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.    Acts 28:5-6

What I got from Jesus is: So easy to take God's place and glory!

What I received from Jesus today is a warning to all Christian leaders not to step in the most deadly trap set up by Satan: to take God's place and glory!

Today's passage is the second time that Paul was being treated as a god. The first time is in Acts 14: 11. There is nothing recorded in todays passage of how the islanders worshipped Paul and how Paul reacted but there is a detail record of how reacted in Acts 14.

Paul was being anointed with powerful gifts and he could show that power in a godly way. But, the power was not from him but from God himself. He knew that and he did not make any mistake about that.

The sad thing is that there are so many Christian leaders have been making huge mistakes for centuries. Why? Because when they are being anointed by the Holy Spirit and demonstrate the power of the Holy Spirit, some of them might become so egocentric and take God's place and God's glory. I have seen so many "gods" in Christian communities that the who is controlling whom brings unnecessary hurt, hatred, bitterness and destruction to so many churches. A church can become a "killing field" because of that.

When God is with you, when you really experience Emmanuel, you might be able to exercise certain kinds of power. But, that is not you, that is "God with you". Whenever you are not willing to be with God everyday, Satan has his most cunning method to deceive you to take God's place and God's glory. Then you will become a destroyer rather than a healer, a separator rather than an ambassador of reconciliation, a "little" devil of Satan rather than a messenger/angel of God.

Jesus is Lord, not "I" am the Lord!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be careful every moment that we will never take your place and your glory.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
