What I got from Jesus is: You are always on my mind!
Today passage is about the real meaning of relationship! If you have a real intimate personal relationship with someone then he or she should be always on your mind.
Jesus reminds me of an old song "You were always on my mind" sung by Elvis Presley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9sRJ-eOHnc) and Willie Nelson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7f189Z0v0Y). The song is quite sad in a way that someone is mourning to a broken relationship. Why this an why that! If I did better, if I did more, would that change the situation? I am so sorry that you were not so much on my mind!
Your were always on my mind
Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
And maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have
If I made you feel second best
Girl, I'm sorry I was blind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
And maybe I didn't hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
And I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
But you were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
And give me, give me one more chance
To keep you satisfied
I'll keep you satisfied
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
But you were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
What I got from Jesus is that his warning to each one of us that we have not put Jesus on our minds always. That's why he rebuked Peter addressing him as Satan and telling him to get behind him.
Jesus demonstrated right away that how the Father is always on his mind and how he is always on the Father's mind. "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him."
So, Jesus warning is a relational and missional one. If Jesus is really our Lord and not "the second best" (as in the lyrics of You Were on My Mind"), then he should be always on our mind and not like what he rebuked Peter that he did not have in mind the things of God. If we have the relational piece, then we should have the missional work demonstrate through our lives to follow Jesus to save more souls.
Don't sing "You were always on my mind" to Jesus but to sing "You are always on my mind" to Jesus daily. Is there a song called "you are always on my mind"? I think you need to write one if you know how to write!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to enter into a loving relationship with you that you are always on our minds daily. know that we would never understand what you are talking about until we can come to you each day. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
